The panorama of parents and seminarians above, plus the priest, other family members of the seminarians gives you an idea of the size of the gathering present at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on December 29 for the 20th annual celebration for parents and seminarians in Arch KCK.
This joyous event, sponsored by the Serra Clubs Johnson County, Atchison, and Topeka along with the Serra Club of Kansas City in Kansas, that had the responsibility this year for coordinating Parents and Seminarians Mass and Luncheon 2017
Following the Mass in the main church, we convened in the gym for lunch. We were welcomed by Gary McCoy, President of Serra KCK, Maggie Lents, President of the Johnson County Serra Clubs, and Jim Burns, Governor for Serra District 12-c. The luncheon opened and closed with prayers for vocations to the priesthood and persistence of these vocations.
The highlights of the program was the introduction and current status of each seminarian by Fr. Wallisch and Msgr. Mullen. Each seminarian received a monetary gift, composed of donations from Archdiocesan Serra Clubs and multiple other sources including the Msgr. Thomas J. Culhane Endowment Fund.
Abbot Alpers, OSB and Brother Leven Harton, OSB, Vocations Director and Fr. Simon, OSB, Formation director introduced the monks and priests of the Benedictine Abbey in Atchison. Archbishop Naumann’s then highlighted the priest ordinations of 2017 and those coming in 2018 and acknowledged the fine work done by the diocesan Serra Clubs in supporting, encouraging and affirming vocations.
The meeting closed with a blessing for all present by Archbishop Naumann and Abbot Alpers.
