The annual Parent-Seminarian Mass was held at St. Joseph Church in Shawnee. Archbishop Joseph Naumann was the main celebrant. Concelebrants included Abbott James Albers, OSB, Msgr. Mike Mullen, Father Dan Morris, Father Scott Wallisch, Msgr. Tom Tank and several other priests of the archdiocese. Father Bruce Ansems was the Master of Ceremonies. The archbishop was assisted by transitional deacons Mark Ostrowski and Ken Clem. The St. Joseph choir provided beautiful music.
The luncheon was served in the church hall immediately after Mass. Approximately two hundred priests, seminarians, parents and Serrans enjoyed the meal and conversation. Msgr. Mullen led the blessing.
After lunch, Father Scott Wallisch, pastor of St. Joseph Church and archdiocesan co-director of seminarians introduced the seminarians and recognized any parents who were attending. Each seminarian was given a monetary gift, provided in large part by the local Serra clubs.
Fr. Dan Morris, archdiocesan director of vocations, spoke briefly about the ten applications he has for the seminary next year. Abbot James Albers then introduced Father Simon Baker, OSB, chaplan of Benedictine College. Father Simon introduced the monks who were present from St. Benedicts. Archbishop Naumann's remarks and his final blessing closed this years Parent and Seminarian luncheon.
Special thanks to the Serra Club of Johnson County for coordination and St. Joseph Parish for hosting.
